I hope by reposting this advice many more people will once more feel good about their murano and their bank account. This is a very serious problem and there should be a recall. During stop and go traffic, I step on the gas pedal and the car does not move for a few seconds then suddenly the car jerks forward. I have been doing research and found out that there was a extension on the warranty that I did not know about and was never told by Nissan. Check Engine light has been going on and off for a number of months. Very dangerous problem with vehicle.
The resolution to the problem ended up resulting in replacing the entire transmission. I am not suggesting that everyone on this thread has this issue, I suspect that there may indeed be other more serious issues… and you have my condolences. I have to pull over, turn the car off and wait about 20 to 30 sec. I can not afford the 6K dollar price tag to fix it.
Most likely it is the differential since you are having problems in the snow. I started noticing issues with it at about 90,000 miles. I will reach both in the spring of 2013. I have been told it was the following: Throttle body, valve body, and transmission. They would rather ripp you off for several hundred or even a few thousand dollars. The failure recurred five years later and the contact called the manufacturer regarding the transmission assembly. The seals had to be redone, also under extended warranty.
Its when I drive it to work its about 38 miles and I get off the ramp at the turn signal and I want to accelerate and don't go am very scared to push the throttle because in a few secs, it just kicks and could cause a accident in front of me. I took it to another Nissan dealer and allowed them to do a diagnosis. Dealer greased the boots and cleaned them. . Might not be able to drive it back to the dealership. Never, never, never will I buy a Nissan product again. Remove splash guards and inner fender splash shield with Phillips screw driver.
The harder I would accellerate the worse it acted up. Resealed the transfer case under extended warranty. That will never happen and even the inspection itself is not going to be paid for under warranty, The car owner would be billed and that often opens up a can of worms. I took mine in with 118,500 but they said nothing was wrong, because they had no codes showing a problem. Remove this … and there is the lamp. Check fluid level by removing the inspection plug on the left side of the transmission.
This defect has put my family in many dangerous situations in the past year. Nissan will lie about a problem until you are out of warranty and then suddenly be able to figure out why the car is sluggish or jerky at times. This is a huge safety hazard on the road for all 2003 Nissan Murano owners, and it's not ethically right to leave hundreds of thousands of people in serious life or death situations. There is another car behind me that is stuck in the intersection as well which makes a hard left to get around and barely avoids an accident. It is locked into place with a plastic tab. My 2004 Murano has been running poorly for the last several weeks; primarily bucking sometimes violently , and a severe lack of power.
It happens more frequently in stop and go traffic. I slipped it back on and the problems was solved!! Should have kept the minivan! I decided to shut off the car and restart it yes in the middle of a busy intersection under a red light blocking traffic I turn off the car and restart it. Lima Auto Mall, Lima Oh. Took my car to the dealer and there it worked fine! It's been a great car since I purchased it new. Took to an independent shop for final repair.
Girard nissan had to ship the transmission out of state to be repaired. I invite you to drive my car for a day and then maybe you will have something done about this. I took mine in with 118,500 but they said nothing was wrong, because they had no codes showing a problem. Very unhelpful over the years, and I cannot trust them again. Dealer says it was due to the computer needing to be reset and now says it is due to a faulty transfer case. I just had to park it and will have it towed tomorrow. They replaced the 2 cats.
